Hike 2 October 3rd

So - we set out to hike Flat Iron in the Lost Dutchman State Park....but it was closed....apparently ALL of Tonto National Forest was closed due to the burn risk...

My hiking gals and I went on a detour, though, because we were determined to get in our miles! We ended up going 4.33 miles on a leisurely hike with D. Welch https://thediggings.com/mines/amc371568  He's a legit geology pro and taught us all about some "c" stone that's blue....I can make the noise that the word sounds like and S.K. was able to guess it, lol....catachryssila or something....no idea.

This one was leisurely - I had to go to the bathroom and we were looking at a trailhead map...then the sherriff and ranger found us and told us to depart from the "forest"....so, that was an adventure.

We got a tour of he area from the perspective of a miner - it was actually pretty cool to see where possible Native American dwellings were, what they did, etc. Walking through history!

This Palo Verde is half brown from the recent fires (this past spring.)

New growth!

An old entry to a mining shaft - not super long ago - speculation is someone died here and that's what shut it down.

Sparkle on.
